DeWALT DCD795 Attachment
In 2016, I was tasked with designing an attachment for the DeWALT DCD795 cordless drill that would provide a useful transfer of drive. I therefore designed an attachment that transfers the drill's power 90 degrees and allows the tool to be used as either an angle grinder or a cutting disc.
The final design clamps onto the metal collar of the drill, using a rubber inner to increase grip and reduce the risk of the attachment rotating during use. A final unloaded output speed of 8000 rpm is achieved via a three stage gear system with an overall ratio of 1 to 4. The ABS casing, which carries the gearing directly without a metal gearbox, is designed to fit within the DeWALT brand parameters using many of their design cues. The secondary handle can screw into three different positions around the body to make the attachment more ergonomic for both left and right handed users.
